Authorized holds are purchases and payments that haven't yet been finalized and are still processing. This means a temporary hold is placed on funds until the final total of the transaction is settled.

When you initiate a payment, either online or in-person, the merchant may sometimes delay charging your card the entire balance upfront. Instead, they put a hold on the transaction until it is completed and fully settled. This commonly occurs with hotel and car rentals. A merchant may also apply an authorized hold to a certain transaction as a fraud-prevention measure (such as gas purchases at the pump).

Authorized holds are deducted from your Spendable Balance, but you will still see the funds in your account balance.

Below is a breakdown of what Spendable Balance, your account balance, and your authorized holds mean for you.

Spendable Balance

This is the balance that is available to spend or withdraw at any given moment. The amount is determined based on your current account balance subtracting any authorized holds. You can find this amount on your Spending Account dashboard under the Cash tab (highlighted in the green box in the screenshot below).

Account Balance

This is the total balance that is currently in your Moves Spending Account. It’s important to remember that just because this is your account balance, it does not mean that all of the funds are available to spend. You can find this amount on your Spending Account dashboard under the Cash tab (highlighted in the green box in the screenshot below).

Authorized Hold
An authorized hold is a temporary hold placed on an allocation of funds in your account. The money is still in your account; however, the amount of the authorization hold is restricted from use. Funds are normally released within 3 business days, but in certain cases can last up to 31 days. You can find your authorized holds when you click into transactions on your Spending Account. Authorized hold transactions will show up at the top of the list of transactions under the 'Authorized Holds' header (highlighted in the green box in the screenshot below).
